You Can Get Here From There!

June 13, 2006 -- It was announced, on April 30, 2006 (just as we were preparing to open) that the Fairport Lift Bridge would by placed in its "lifted position" for about 4 weeks, for repairs. Boats will still be able to pass under the bridge, and pedestrians will be able to cross, by using the stairs at either end. But vehicles will have to find another way. This has many village merchants upset, including us. This is the time of year, when we should be doing the most business. Route 250 is the only major, North/South road through the village, and it  goes right by us. To get to the "other side" means taking a detour that bypasses most of the downtown.

At a meeting last night, in the Fairport Village Board Room, Village Fathers were sympathetic, but powerless to help much. Other than to wave the permit fee for temporary signs (still requiring that signs meet code, and all the paper work is submitted). The State DOT is refusing to allow directional signs to be placed in any State owned Right-of-way. Sighting Traffic congestion concerns. No one spoke on why the Canal  Corp. choose this time of year to do the work. The only comments were that this happens about every 18 years.

The Village Merchants Association, and Partnership are planning several events, including concerts and movie nights to promote traffic (I guess that would be foot traffic) in the area, during the repairs

We're hoping that if you've tried us, and like us you'll make the extra effort to come back. And if you haven't tried us yet, you won't let a little thing like a bridge keep you away.

How To Get Here -

If you're coming from north of the canal, you're all set. Just come down Route 250, to Lift Bridge Lane (that's as far as you can go), turn left on Lift Bridge Lane, the right into our parking lot, behind the Box Factory. We're in the corner, by the canal, with the covered deck.

If you're on the south side of the canal...

From the West, driving East on Route 31F, turn left on Baird Rd. or on O'Connor Rd. which goes around Perinton Community Park. Both of these routes bring you up to Whitney Rd. Turn right on Whitney, then right on 250. Then down to Lift Bridge Lane (see above).

From The East, if your on 31F (also know as Macedon Center Rd), continue on High St., to Route 250 and turn left...

If you on Turk Hill Rd., turn right, on 31F, to cross the canal and tracks. Continue to High St., turn left on High St., then left again on Route 250.

Secrete Way!

If you are coming from the east, on East Church St., you can turn right on Parker St. just before the Fire House. This brings you to a one-lane bridge over the canal, and Lift Bridge Lane. Just turn left to get to our parking lot behind the Box Factory.

If you are coming east on Church St., you could turn left on Parker St. (just past the Fire House). But this is what NYS DOT is worried about. They thing this will cause traffic problems.

Anyway you can get here, please come. WE'RE OPEN!
